As a lifestyle magazine editor, it's been my job to discover and curate beauty, fashion and lifestyle content for savvy shoppers. In November 2014, I launched TheEditHawaii.com, celebrating people, places and products throughout the Hawaii to inspire residents and tropical-minded people alike. It didn't take long for me to find a myriad of beauty products that were perfect to gift, covet or hoard for myself!
I've always been one to support local businesses—something I learned from my mom and also from years living in Brooklyn, a place where artisanal items reign supreme. As far as natural beauty goes, I'm relatively new to the game. I've always been aware of what I put into my body, but what I put on it...I wasn't so concerned. However, Hawaii is one of those places that changes you. I realized that if I was lucky enough to live here, I better start taking care of of myself, the land and my neighbors.
First I started reading the labels on the products I was using daily, and after researching about the questionable chemicals inside, I quickly cleared my cabinet. I began using locally made beauty products with clean ingredients, many of which were sourced right here in Hawaii. I also realized that by supporting these small businesses, I was in turn supporting local farms, farmers and families. I want to continue to do just that, and make it easier for others to do as well.
My hope for Aloha Apothecary is to provide residents, visitors and tropical-minded people alike with a curated selection of natural, organic and sustainable beauty and wellness products. And in doing so, support my community and other local entrepreneurs. I'd love for you to join me! I promise your skin will thank you.
